BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
I’ve been a professional photographer for 20 years, shooting editorial and commercial projects. It started long before that, though, with a Kodak Ektra 150 in my early teens, photographing still life images of everything from Star Wars figures to pet food. At college, I found myself drawn to the art department, traded geography for photography, and the rest is history.

Originally from the North East, I’m now based in southern England. I have my own studio but love working on location. Work has taken me all across the UK as well as Europe, Africa, North America, South America and Asia. Whatever the situation, I have the knowledge and experience to get great shots.


CURIOSITY & PASSION
Food, art and craft are my main areas of focus. It’s a privilege to be able to work with people who create beautiful things with their hands. Most of my work is connected with food, which suits my need for variety and my curiosity about how things are created. I’m just as happy taking a portrait of a cocoa farmer in Colombia as I am shooting the interior of a fine dining restaurant in Mayfair. It’s a constantly shifting area, so there are always new chefs, producers and products to work with.


VERSATILITY & RANGE
My skill set allows me to shoot a broad range of subject matter, be it portraits, reportage on location or studio-based still life. I work a lot with lighting which not only allows me to create the feeling I want but also gives my work consistency.



LOOKING AHEAD
I still love the variety of my work and will continue to shoot across all aspects of food photography.

Over the last few years I have been experimenting with analogue photography in unusual ways and I expect this to start filtering through into commercial projects in the near future.

What’s your most useless talent?

I can read Arabic and Cyrillic without being able to understand anything.

What would you have been if not a photographer?

Tour guide in the Middle East.

Favourite cuisine?

Indian, all the way.

Favourite city to work in?

Moscow – it’s endlessly fascinating and photogenic.

Fun fact

I have probably taken photographs in more places on the Arctic Circle than anyone else alive.

Worst shoot experience?

Being detained by the Syrian army in Beirut ( thankfully for a very short time!).

Weirdest shoot experience?

Taking a portrait of someone in a brothel jacuzzi.
